Besides the soundtracks for more than 750 films, Ilayaraaja has composed the following albums:

HOW TO NAME IT?
HTNI - CD Label

HOW TO NAME IT? is a travelogue into the maze of music, explored and conquered by Ilayaraaja. In this exploration, Raaja establishes a platform for a dialogue between the south Indian classical (Carnatic) and Baroque music. This pattern and style of music has never been attempted by any other composer. One could see, or rather hear, his genius in each of the compositions.  Watch out for "I met Bach in my house" and "Chamber welcomes Thyagaraja".

NOTHING BUT WIND
NBW - CD Label

In the experimental album NOTHING BUT WIND, Ilayaraaja proves his mastery over fusing the disparate genres of Carnatic and Baroque music. (May be they are not so unrelated as one would think!) Hariprasad Chaurasia adds flavor with his flute. Take a close listening to "Composer's Breath". "Mozart, I love you" and "Song of soul" is bound to take you to heights of musical ecstacy.

INDIA 24 HOURS
I 24 - CD LABEL

Ilayaraaja composed the soundtrack for the docu-feature film 'INDIA 24 HOURS'. The film and the soundtrack were tremendous success, and were appreciated by Director Mr. Micheal Tobias and the viewers around the world. "India 24 Hours", a visual time capsule of modern India, was premiered simultaneously on Indian national televison network, Doordarshan (Channel 1) and Asia Television Network (ATN) on 26th January, 1996 to mark India's Republic Day. This is THE album for anyone hoping to get an introduction to the ever-surprising world that is India.

ILAIYARAAJA'S GEETANJALI
Geethanjali - CD Label

In 'ILAIYARAAJA'S GEETANJALI', a devotional album in Tamil, a South Indian language, Ilayaraaja brings out another - a somber - facet of his musical creativity. One could hardly explain elation one feels listening to "Kaamaatchi karunaa vilaasini".

RAJAVIN RAMANAMAALAI
Ramana Maalai - Cassette Label

Shri Ramana Maharashi was a mystic in its purest sense who lived in Tiruvannamalai, a sanctified hillock in Tamil Nadu. In this album, Raaja pays homage to his spiritual guru Shri Ramanar. One could get an idea of the philosophical leanings of Raaja listening to this album. "Bitchai paaththiram endhi vandhen" and "Sadhaa sadhaa unnai ninaindhen" have moved many to tears and you wouldn't wonder why.

VEDIC CHANTING
Vedi Chants - Cassette Label

As the title indicates, Ilayaraaja presents the sacred hymns of Hindus in its true form. "VEDIC CHANTING" has been accepted as an authentic presentation by the orthodox Hindus. Close your eyes, open your ear and mind for an hour of peaceful meditation.

MISS WORLD 1996 PAGEANTRY

Ilayaraaja composed the score for 'MISS WORLD 1996 PAGEANTRY', which was a great success, and acclaimed by the music experts and critics as a class of its own.

MEENAKSHI STHOTHRAM

Ilayaraaja sets to music 'MEENAKSHI STHOTHRAM', Sanskrit hymns, written by Shri Adi Shankara, the great monk philosopher of South India (788 AD to 820 AD).

MOOGAMBIGAI

In an yet another devotional album,'MOOGAMBIGAI', this time in Kannada, one of the four south Indian languages, Ilayaraaja pays his homage to the presiding deity of Kollur, Karnataka, India.

RAJA LAHARI

In this album, Raaja shows off his virtuosity in Carnatic music.  A total of five keethanams and varnams set to either a very rare ragam or a complicated thalam is a source of boundless joy for all those yearning for novelty in Carnatic music.
